Opium? To Smoke or Not to Smoke

The opinion of opium in this great country is a subject that incites great and passionate argument. It is well known that if a subject of the British crown fall victim to the illegal trade and smuggling of opium from China, Her Majesty will offer no helping hand of support. To smuggle from China is illegal by the laws of the Chinese, Her Majesty will fail to sympathize with the poor subject that falls wayward.
Apart from this fact, our country finds itself in a state of strange divide. The man that does not support the activity of smoking the foreign remedy argues in the name of foreign affairs and relations with China. He wonders how our selfish, misguided indulgences affect those people of China. He wonders how we can nod towards an illegal traffic yet let the evils of slavery in America and an overall drunkenness noticed in our country slide unnoticed from the public view.
When we observe the opinions of the opium supporter, they most often speak volumes about the non-supporter not having tried opium and therefore not fully understanding the foreign remedy. They push the idea that the controversial drug is not nearly what it is painted to be by the negative public.
All in all, this matter remains to be extremely complex and not a matter that will be solved in a quick manner.
