Upon a recent travel to
the United States I found myself staying at a quaint little inn in the city of
New Orleans. During my stay there I enjoyed some rather fine meals which had
been created using all kinds of foods ranging from orange tomatoes to
eggplants. It was upon my dining at this establishment that a great deal of
commotion took place outside in the town center. Calling the server over as to
inquire to the hustle and bustle of the crowd that had gathered, I was informed
by my server that a slave auction was being concluded. After I had finished I
decided to take it upon myself to venture out into the area where the hub-bub
had taken place. Upon my examining of the area, I discovered a sheet of paper
which contained the information of the auction taking place. Gazing over the
information the ages surprised me as the youngest age I discovered was that of
an eleven year old girl. I then decided to retire to the inn for a drink as the
temperature was quite high, and feeling the effects of the heat, I decided to
refresh my parched lips. As I sat there, I could not help but wonder how
curious a thing it is that the Yanks in fighting for their independence would
use freedom as a rallying cry, but once gained, they deny the thing that they
fought for so sincerely to a race of people based purely on the color of their
skin. America: Home of the Free indeed!
